The blog post title was inscribed on the back of a photograph dated 3/26/49. The photograph portrayed two handsome high school or college boys wearing matching Dept. of Parks Life Guard t-shirts.

The photo was a simple Reddit r/lgbt post by user IncrediblyGay11 in April 2020, unaccompanied by any caption or commentary.

The vintage photograph and Tommy’s heart-tugging message on the back created a viral moment across Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and gay social media.

FORBIDDEN LOVE?

Who were these boys? Which one is Tommy? Which one is Buzz? Are they still living? Is the original inscription changed or overwritten? Were they summer lovers or just friends? Did “just friends” in 1949 sign notes with “Your Tommy”?

Some commenters were cynical, but more were taken by the heartfelt sentimentality of young, forbidden love. What do you think?
