In the blog he writes, “Few stereotypes of gay life are as persistent as that of the sexually starved older man. Gay life has traditionally centered on the young and the beautiful. This issue is a particularly hot one for gay men because regardless of age, they have a strong interest in sex. In the memorable phrase of one writer, ‘Sexuality isn’t what we do; it’s who we are.'”
FOUR THEMES
Dr. Doyle reviewed 19 books which focused in whole or in part on the subject of sexuality of gay men 50 years and older. Four themes emerged: Loneliness and Grief, Ageism, Health, and The Facts of Life in Aging Gay Men. Doyle also found reason to be optimistic about the status of mature gay sexuality.
